I have fallen off the wagon slightly in terms of working out and eating fairly well. I knew this was coming as it always does when I attempt to get into shape, but this time I am poised to “right the ship” before it gets too out of hand. I can make all the excuses in the world, but when it boils down to it I need to avoid playing the blame game and take responsibility for my actions.

So how far have I fallen off? Let’s evaluate!

Sunday was not a rest day, I went ahead and did Kenpo to finish off the week since I had that early off day on the previous Wednesday. Monday I started with Core Synergistics, and then on Tuesday I had a date night with my wife and ate at Chili’s where I had some grilled shrimp tacos. I tried to be kind of good there, but I just think it is impossible to eat out in a healthy fashion. I did not work out Tuesday night and intended to double up on Wednesday with Cardio X in the morning and Shoulder and Arms that evening.

Of course everyone knows how the “I will double up tomorrow” goes… it doesn’t! I did however do Cardio on Wednesday before going to pick up something from the UPS that I bought on eBay. Thursday after work I did Shoulders and Arms at work because I have a wider selection of dumbbells there. The Thursday workout was my best of the week as I still feel the soreness on Sunday!

Friday my parents came into town so any kind of workout opportunity was a wash. I certainly could have found time to squeeze one in but I used their visit as a reason not to work out. I ate at Chili’s… again. This time however I did not eat so healthy. I won’t even reveal what filth I ate! This laziness carried over into Saturday. I did not necessarily eat poorly, but again I did not work out.

Actually Saturday was a weird day for me physically. I think it may have been what I ate on Friday night because I just felt horrible on Saturday. Lethargic, gross, and just blah in general describes my overall demeanor pretty much all day. I was able to grab a quick nap for about an hour and a half and woke up feeling a little bit better, but Saturday just was not a good day for me.

To pile it on even thicker… I purchased a six pack of beer on Saturday night and drank for the first time in three weeks! I had no intentions of getting plastered and totally falling off the workout wagon, but I did enjoy myself and was able to do a little bit of gaming into the early morning, something I do not get to do much these days!

So here it is Sunday, I am in a great mood, and I am looking forward to working out tonight. I am not quite sure exactly where I should pick up at because this is supposed to be the “recovery week”. I think I will just do some cardio or kenpo. Most likely kenpo because that is always a fun workout that gets some sweat going.

I know I said my best workout of the week was shoulders and arms, but I just remembered the awesome Core Synergistics workout I had on Monday. I am not sure what the difference was, but I was drenched in sweat once all was said and done. I felt very accomplished!

So this week I fully intend to work out every day. I have nothing in my schedule that should impede my ability to workout, and I am about done making excuses for myself! Oh on Tuesday I weighed in at 244. I can’t remember if I updated the weight at any time this week. I am a little afraid to check my weight on Tuesday, but I am expecting no loss, and hopefully no gain. Although with the week I have had I think losing weight would send a negative message to myself.

Texans are finally having a good game! And on that note, farewell!

Well I said I was going to update with a weigh-in, and I guess better late than never. Tuesday morning I weighed in at 247, for a loss of 6 pounds from my initial weight of 253. I will be weighing in again on Tuesday morning around 8am and am looking forward to at least a little bit more of a loss. If I gained for some reason I think I would pretty much be devastated. Wednesday I got home… Continue reading »

Wednesday I got home from work and was just exhausted so the wife and I decided to take a nap. We laid down at around 6:45pm and I did not wake up until 3am! I chalked that up to my rest day so I will finish up with Kenpo today then get back to it with Core Synergistics on Monday.

Overall the workouts this week have been a bit easier (as I hoped they would be). Ab Ripper is still not really doing much for my abs I don’t think. My obliques are sore, and my abs are on fire during the workout itself but I just don’t feel it the next day or two. I have noticed that during bicycles, in and outs, and froggie that my lower back is getting some work as I try to keep my chest up and back straight. Maybe once that gets stronger my abs will feel more of a workout.

Highlight of my week… completing Yoga! It was not pretty by any means, and my balance is horrible! The stabilizer muscles and tendons in my ankles are pretty sore which is a good sign for future yoga sessions. I need to invest in a yoga block and I think I will get even better at yoga over the next 75 days or so.

Nutrition wise I have been doing pretty well. I am just making good decisions on what I eat and trying to drink way more water than I usually do. No beer in 15 days for me now. I want a cold one but I don’t want to jeopardize my dedication in any way at this point!

Week 3 here I come and then I believe the workouts get flipped around a little bit. Variety is the spice of life after all. I can’t wait!

I was at Chili’s with my wife last Sunday and my old buddy Kris came over to talk to us at our table. He mentioned that he was thinking about getting back into p90x and since I just hit 30 years old and was looking at getting into working out again, we decided to tackle it together to motivate one another.

Usually the first week of working out kinda blows so I figured I would see if I actually completed the first week with any kind of success and then I would begin posting about my workouts.

Well here I am a week into it and I feel as though I am having quite a bit of success actually! I think I shall give a quick run down of how my days went (as best I can remember).

Day 1: Core Synergistics – I struggled a bit through this first workout, and I feel as though I definitely did not “bring it”. I was able to complete the workout without any major issues, and felt pretty accomplished afterwards.

Day 2: Cardio – Got a pretty good sweat on. I like the variety of moves performed and it got me looking forward to Kenpo.

Day 3: Arms & Shoulders – My first weight workout. I have experienced painful joints and tendons in the past after going balls to the wall on my first workout so I took it nice and light with the weights I chose to get back into the swing of things.

Day 4: Yoga – Yeah these people are freaking nuts. I decided to give yoga a go and got about 40 minutes into it before they started doing the freaky stuff. So I opted to do the last half of the cardio disc to make up the workout.

Day 5: Legs & Back – Oh my. I knew after doing this workout my legs would be suffering pretty badly. The pullups I completely fail at. I am checking in a 252 at the start of my 90 days, and I can not even do one. So I am standing on the floor and making my back do the work, and helping with my legs until I get stronger.

Day 6: Kenpo – This is fun. As with most of the workouts I have to watch them first then hit the previous chapter button to give it a go myself. This will get better with time.

Day 7: Rest – Much needed rest on Sunday during NFL football. I kinda felt bad resting oddly enough, but it was necessary.

Tomorrow after Cardio I will try and update on my goals, approach, and Monday workout which was Core Synergistics again (but MUCH better). Oh and my first weekly weigh in!
